About the Trainer

Blue Hess has been training dogs since he got his first dog, Chuck, in 2013, but has been actively training since 2019. Blue started at a local dog grooming resort, Lucy's Doggy Daycare, and learned dog training from several trainers. He later became a certified dog trainer through Petco. Feeling he could better assist anxious and fearful dogs, he decided to bring training to clients' homes, leading to the creation of ChuckCo. Dog Training. Noticing many dogs needing behavior help, Blue trained at a facility with a 15-day intensive program. The results varied, and clients struggled to maintain the training. Blue now assists families in successfully training their dogs by utilizing a variety of different motivators tailored to each individual pup's personality and needs. By offering Balanced Training techniques and unwavering support to pet parents throughout the entire training process, Blue ensures that both dogs and their humans can enjoy a harmonious relationship filled with learning and fun.

Blue has gathered a total of over 1,500 hours of hands-on training experience working directly with dogs. He has extensive training specifically focusing on utilizing Positive Reinforcement techniques, alongside Model/Mirror Training methods with members of his pack. Additionally, Blue incorporates controlled E-Stim use as part of a Balanced Training Method to ensure effective obedience and behavior modification for specific cases.

Blue is also an AKC CGC Approved Evaluator

FAQs

  • “I will talk and confer with you the parent on your goals and wishes with training first but my default is positive reinforcement with fear free based methods using LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive). Each dog is unique in their breed makeup and temperament and depending on your dog specific responses I will either stick with that or gradually increase or decrease both the reward and potential corrections ( verbal, sound cue, leash or for specific cases an E-Stim collar under strict conditions). All this at the dogs pace and always followed by lots of love and treats to balance the moment, hence the name Balanced Training.”

  • “Every class will generally be the same, I work the dog in front of you unless I need you the parent out for specific reasons. I do lots of drills of repetitive games for your dog to follow along and learn at the same time. I will then have you try and keep up my base line with the dog. Sometimes we may work in your neighborhood, around dog parks, Home Depot/Lowes, and any other local dog friendly places we can meet at. Based on your dogs breed and age class can be anywhere from 20 mins to over an hour, dogs can only work and learn productively within a certain time frame before they eventually get frustrated. As responsible pet owners we have to look for tell tale signs of overworking a dog to eliminate risks to your dogs health.”

  • “All you need tool wise is a nylon or equivalent collar thats two to three fingers tight to prevent a run away dog, and a decent leash. I prefer five to six feet long but I will also always use a 15ft long one for specific commands. If we need treats we don’t need them long as I try to move dogs away from so many treats especially for older dogs. If an E-collar is needed we have specific packages that include it or your welcome to buy it on your own. I prefer the Mini Educator by E-Collar”
